Webinar on Intellectual Property Rights organised by KNCW,Phagwara

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Kamla Nehru College for Women, Phagwara organized a webinar on the topic “Uses of IPR in Research, Business & Industry”. Dr. Lachhman Das Singla, Director, Human Resource Management,

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) was invited as the resource person of this webinar. He was welcomed by the IQAC co-ordinator Mr. Naval Kishore Dogra,  introduced by the Organising Secretary Dr. Neeti Passi and formally welcomed by the college Principal Dr. Savinder Pal. In this webinar Dr. Singla discussed the meaning, nature and uses of Intellectual Property Rights. Illustrating the topic at hand with the help of PPT, Dr. Singla defined Intellectual Property as “any product of the human intellect that the law protects from unauthorized use by others.” He further shed light on   the catagories of Intellectual property rights namely: Trademarks, Patents, Industrial Designs (which come under Industrial Property Rights) and Copyrights (which are used to protect artistic and literary creations). Dr. Singla also discussed the miscellaneous catagories of IPR namely: Biological Diversity, Layout designs of integrated circuits, Trade secrets, Plant varieties and Farmers’ Rights. Dr. Singla explained the topic by using examples from day to day life for the better understanding of the participants. Dr. Amarjit Singh, Comptroller, GADVASU also graced this webinar with his virtual presence.Dr. Savinder Pal congratulated the members of the IQAC for the grand success of the webinar and encourgaed them to conduct such informative sessions in the future too. At the end of the webinar, Mr. Sandeep Walia, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce proposed a formal vote of thanks. He thanked the resource person and the college Principal alongwith the students and faculty members from KNCW and other colleges. This webinar was attended by almost around 100 participants including outgoing students of UG classes-B.Com, BSc, BBA and PG class of M.Com.
