Celebration of Basant Panchami at KNCW
Kamla Nehru College for Women, Phagwara celebrated Basant Panchami Utsav with great enthusiasm. The programme commenced with Saraswati Puja to seek blessings from Goddess Saraswati which was followed by singing of a shabad ‘Mauli Dharti Mauliya Aakash’ by the college Principal. She further informed the students about the importance of Basant Panchami festival. The students of the music department also gave a melodious performance. Along with this, the Fine Arts organized a kite making competition. Among winners, Kiran and Khushi of BA 2nd Sem got First Prize, Babita and Tania (BA 4th Sem) won 2nd Prize, Mannat (+1 Arts) and Ritu (BA 6th Sem) bagged 3rd Prize while Muskaan (BA 2nd Sem) Rehana (BA 6th Sem) won Consolation Prize. To mark the occasion,Department of Home Science and Fashion Designing organized Yellow- coloured dishes cooking competition, Umbrella Decoration and Miss Basant competition.40 students participated in these completions. Among the winners, Prabhleen Kaur, Lovepreet, Sunita and Anchal bagged first, second, third and consolation prizes in cooking competition. In Umbrella decoration competition, Amandeep Suman bagged first prize. Ms. Sukriti was choosen as Ms. Basant whereas Heena and Bhavisha were adjudged as first and second runner up. Speaking on the occasion, Principal Dr Savinder Pal, said that such celebrations will help students to relate and bond with rich Indian cultural roots and traditions. At the end of the program, Dr. Lalit Kumar, Head of the Music Department, enthralled the audience by singing Raga Basant.
