GNDU Zonal Youth festival 2015 inaugurated at KNCW

Three day Guru Nanak Dev University Zonal Youth Festival (D Zone) was inaugurated on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Kamla Nehru College for Women, Phagwara amid much fanfare at the college campus.
Dr. Om Gauri Dutt Sharma, Deputy Director General, Doordarshan Kendra, Jalandhar was the chief guest at the inauguration. The event was given a traditional inauguration by lighting the lamps by Dr. Sharma along with President College Managing Committee Mr. IK Sardana, Director Youth Welfare GNDU Amritsar Dr. Jagjit Kaur and Principal of the college Dr. Kiran Walia.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sharma recalled his own experience of participating in youth festivals as a student. “I am what I am because of this stage,” he said and advised the students to always stay positive in life and be active in life.
Dr. Jagjit Kaur congratulated Kamla Nehru College for Women and its Principal Dr. Kiran Walia for successfully organizing the event. She also appreciated the role being played by Doordarshan in preserving Punjabi culture under the chairmanship of Dr. Om Gauri Dutt Sharma.
On the first day of this event, the events of Bhangra, Group Shabad/Bhajan, Group Song (Indian), Classical Instrumental (Percussion), Classical Instrumental (Non-Percussion), Classical vocal, Vaar Singing, Kawishri and Fine Arts Items including collage making, photography, clay modeling, poster making, landscape, installation and Cartooning were held.
On the occasion, the formal inauguration of the audio-visual studios of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication was done by Dr. Om Gauri Dutt Sharma in the presence of the members of the college management committee.

The results of the competitions held on the first day are:

Bhangra, Group Song/Bhajan, Group Song (Indian), Classical Instrumental (Percussion), Classical Instrumental (Non-Percussion), Classical Vocal, Vaar Singing, Kawishri, Photography, Collage Making, Poster making, Clay modeling, Landscape, Installation, Cartooning.
