Under the able guidance of College Principal, Dr. Savinder Pal, the NSS unit of Kamla Nehru College for Women, Phagwara, celebrated the 155th birth anniversary of the man who preached nonviolence, the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi, and the 120th birth anniversary of the man of peace, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, as a part of the ‘Swachhata Hi Sewa Hai’ campaign. Various activities were conducted during the celebration of the ‘Swachhata Hi Sewa Hai’ campaign from September 17th to October 2nd, 2024, which included an extension lecture, a cleanliness drive, a poster making competition, a slogan writing competition, a rally, an awareness drive, pledge taking, and nukkad natak. To mark the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, a cleanliness drive was carried out on the college campus. The volunteers also visited the adopted village, Village Chak Hakim, as part of the campaign. Volunteers also made posters on the themes of ‘Swachhata Hi Sewa Hai’ and ‘No use of plastic’. Around 100 volunteers became part of this campaign. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Savinder Pal exhorted the students to follow in the footsteps of Gandhiji to make India clean and self-reliant, as well as to opt for the ways of peace and non-violence. She also appreciated the joint efforts of the programme officers, Ms. Nidhi Jassal and Dr. Lalit Kumar, for successfully organising this event.
