Seminar on Canadian Education in Collaboration with Guru Nanak Institute of Global Studies, Canada

Career Orientation and Placement Cell of KNCW organized an insightful seminar on Canadian education in collaboration with the Guru Nanak Institute of Global Studies, Canada on Feb 19, 2025. The event was graced by esteemed guests, including S. Gian Singh Sandhu, President and CEO of the Guru Nanak Institute, and Prof. Dr. Lakhwinder Singh Bedi, Dean of Academics and Professor of English at Desh Bhagat University, Punjab. The seminar commenced with a warm welcome extended to the chief guest and resource person, who were presented with potted plants and shawls as tokens of appreciation. S. Gian Singh Sandhu addressed the audience, sharing his academic insights and personal experiences. He underscored the profound significance of education in shaping individuals’ lives and discussed the historical journey of Punjabis in Canada, highlighting the challenges faced during their initial settlement. His motivational discourse encouraged students to pursue professional development to make a meaningful impact on society. Furthermore, he introduced the World Sikh Organization, which he founded to advocate for human rights and assist those in need.

In addition, S. Sandhu outlined the various academic offerings at GNI, including six diploma programs and two certificate courses, and announced scholarship opportunities for deserving students. Prof. Dr. Lakhwinder Singh Bedi further enriched the discussion by informing students about the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) allowance for dual degrees. He elaborated on the various programs available and the class schedules, providing students with valuable information for their academic pursuits. Around 100 students attended the event. The seminar concluded with expressions of gratitude from both speakers to Dr. Savinder Pal, Principal of Kamla Nehru College, for facilitating this enriching interaction with the students.
